Wabi-Sabi? From Wikepedia: Characteristics of the wabi-sabi aesthetic include asymmetryasperity (roughness or irregularity), simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy and appreciation of the ingenuous integrity of natural  objects and processes….the beauty or serenity that comes with age, when the life of the object and it ‘s impermanence are evidenced in its patina and wear, or in any visible repairs…, Why the connection? Bills most recent assemblages are linked very much to his inventory of antiques especially his appreciation of primitives and folk art . Both the assemblages and the antiques exhibit many of the characteristics of the Wabi Sabi aesthetic.

Matson who grew up in Chester and who now lives in Woodstock Vermont will be showing his most recent paintings. He describes his work as a form of contemporary primitivist style. Matson’s paintings focus on expressionist marks and arrangement of abstract text and characters in occasionally comic environments.
Refreshments will be served. “A splendid time is guaranteed for all.”
