Karmic Relief 2014 is a night of comedy and searching lunatic laughing at the mysteries and misadventures and hidden treasures of the spiritual life. This year’s program features new work by the outrageous Anna Maria Trusky (Comedy on Demand) on the theme that Unicorns Are Jerks. We will also be treated to a mechanical crystal ball session with the the hilarious guru Swami Beyondananda, and performance from the innovative Om-FLY acrobatic-yogini troupe. Anna Maria Trusky is a Connecticut-based playwright, artist, director, and performer. Among other commissioned works, Trusky has written numerous works of comedy, including comedy sketches dealing with mental illness for the Second Step Players and popular comic musical murder mysteries for the Riverway Studio’s productions on the Essex
Steam Train and other plays for Groton Regional Theatre and the Mayfly Playhouse. She is also founding member of the professional improv troupe Comedy On Demand, and is a longtime member of the Writer’s Roundtable.
Be a FUNdamentalist. Ensure that the FUN always comes before the MENTAL.
Realize that life is a situation comedy that will never be cancelled. A laugh track has
been provided and the reason we are put in the material world is to get more material
from that track. – Swami Beyonananda
Swami Beyondananda is the cosmic comic alter ego of writer, humorist, performer and uncommontator Steve Bhaerman. The Swami, whose favorite yoga pose is tongue-in-cheek, is the spokesperson for a new non-religion, FUNdamentalism (accent on “fun”). In the
course of nearly twenty-five years of purveying cosmic comedy and healing laughter, Swami has had a successful, long-running monthly column, Ask The Swami, has written four books including Driving Your Own Karma … When You See A Sacred Cow, Milk It for
All It’s Worth and Duck Soup for the Soul. His latest book, written with cellular biologist Bruce H. Lipton, PhD is Spontaneous Evolution: Our Positive Future and a Way to Get There From Here (Hay House, 2009). He has been on stage with the great sages of the past quarter century, and even performed for Swami Satchidananda’s 80th birthday party in 1994.
Play: To Pay Attention – Jen Taylor
Karmic Relief will also feature Om-FLY acrobatic troupe’s new work DAKINI, in an acro-flying yoga hoop dance performance, showcasing some of the fun-filled mindfulness and community-building practices taught at the Sanctuary. Om-FLY is a collaborative
movement troupe comprised of Melissa Cokas, Maia Rose, Justin Zachariewicz and Sheryl Delieto under the artistic direction of Jen Taylor. Each year, Taylor’s community Eco-Circus dazzles the audience with goodness and hope. This summer’s Cirque de Shiny promises ruminations on the nature of powerful technologies, both natural & man-made. In a noisy world, Taylor offers an inter-generational program of holistic education where students come to quiet our minds, inhabit our bodies, and discover our native creativity while learning the joys of community and the values of sustainable living. Ahimsa.
