Attacca String Quartet Chester CTinternational prizewinning string quartet, the Attacca Quartet

Attacca String Quartet, winner of the prestigious 2011 Osaka International Chamber Music competition, will open the 40th anniversary season of the Collomore Music Series on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 5 p.m. at the Chester Meeting House.

The Attacca Quartet is now in its tenth season, having been formed at the Juilliard School in 2003. It is composed of violinists Amy Schroeder and Keiko Tokunaga, violist Luke Fleming and cellist Andrew Yee. They made their professional debut in 2007 as part of the Artists International Winners Series in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and have appeared there on numerous occasions since.

The top prizewinner and Listeners’ Choice Award recipient in the 2011 Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition, the Attacca Quartet has been recognized as one of America’s premier young performing ensembles. The New York Times wrote about one of their concerts, “The concert was, in a word, sensational.” The quartet currently serves as the Juilliard Graduate Resident String Quartet, and is represented internationally by Columbia Artists.

Their Collomore concert is this year’s Barbara and Edmund Delaney Young Artists Concert, and is sponsored by Ceramica. Tickets are $21. For students from elementary through graduate school, a ticket is $5. All ticket-holders are invited to stay for a reception after the concert to meet the performers. If you’re interested in attending all four concerts of the 40th season, a subscription is just $63 (that’s four concerts for the price of three).
