Evening highlights will include a sing-along led by local talent, the children’s decorating of the tree, and special merchant events and gallery openings. The Chester Boy Scouts Troop 13 will line the streets with luminaries, while Saint Lucia Girls stroll around with goodies. The Garden Club will decorate the lampposts, adding to the holiday feeling we all enjoy. There will be plenty of demonstrations, exhibits, openings and of course, shopping. Love For Frock: VENU Magazine, CT

In Chester Business, Shopping on November 10, 2010 at 10:02 am

Original Article and all photos by Caryn B. Davis

Frock is the storefront/studio home of independent designers Whosiepie and Mergirl (aka TrishDarling), and just may be the happiest place I have ever experienced. It just so happens to also be Darling Headquarters as we know it. How perfect. Fairfield County based Venu Magazine (page 22 for the full story) decided they needed to get to know this darling local CT fashion spot a bit better, now you can too. So…when are you going to visit?

Like the local food movement where people now want to know where their food comes from, they also want to know where their clothes come from. They like buying clothes that they know are made in Connecticut and supporting a local business. “A woman in her 60s came in and when she saw us making the clothes right here she said, ‘the world is getting better’. People need inspiration like this, especially now.” says Williams-Larson, and FROCK of doing that one stitch at a time.

FROCK doesn’t function like the average fashion house where the designers are hidden from public view off sewing in another part of the building. Or where they go into production making clothes of full year before they are seen. Nor do they start working on their fall line before summer is even half way over. The designers remain free to catch the energy of the day which keeps their ideas fresh and flowing “if it’s hot in September, we will still be making cute summer things”, says Williams-Larson.

Ginter appreciates the immediacy of being able to work in the now, creating because she is inspired to create, and not because a marketing campaign has demanded that she does, as in the traditional fashion world. There are no expectations to produce just for the sake of producing nor anyone telling them what to make and when to make it. “We can continue to do summer until we feel the very first cool breeze that’s when it will tell us it’s time to do fall. We are in the season we are in, the way it feels this week.” says Ginter.

Robbie Collomore Concert Series Presents: Vassily Primakov On Piano Nov.14, 2010

In Chester CT Events, Music on November 7, 2010 at 6:41 am

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 14 at 5:00 p.m., Mark your calendar for Collomore’s next fall performance, Russian pianist, Vassily Primakov known in the international music scene as a pianist of world-class importance.

In recent years, Vassily Primakov has been hailed as a pianist of world class importance. Gramophone wrote that “Primakov’s empathy with Chopin’s spirit could hardly be more complete,” and the American Record Guide stated: “Since Gilels, how many pianists have the right touch? In Chopin, no one currently playing and recording sounds as good as this! This is a great Chopin pianist.”  Music Web-International called Primakov’s Chopin concertos CD “one of the great Chopin recordings of recent times.  These are performances of extraordinary power and beauty.” In 1999, as a teen-aged prizewinner of the Cleveland International Piano Competition, Primakov was praised by Donald Rosenberg of the Cleveland Plain Dealer: “How many pianists can make a line sing as the 19-year-old Moscow native did on this occasion? Every poignant phrase took ethereal wing. Elsewhere the music soared with all of the turbulence and poetic vibrancy it possesses. We will be hearing much from this remarkable musician.”

This show is generously sponsored by Ceramica.  Collomore Concerts are live, professional, world-class performances occurring only four times a year. Each performance is followed by a simple reception to mingle and meet other music lovers and the performer. Visit CollomoreConcerts for a complete concert schedule and links to sample music for each artist.
