Come to Chester Friday Dec. 2, 2011 for the Annual Holiday Stroll! The shops and galleries will be open late. Enjoy the fun atmosphere of strolling through town, popping in and out of all your favorite spots. Holiday shopping is so easy as you meander along. Be prepared to sing. There will be caroling, the tree lighting and as always the St. Lucia girls will be walking around with sweet treats for all. The festivities begin at 5, end at 8. Main Street, Chester, CT.

This Sunday, November 20, at 5:00 p.m., Grammy nominated Jazz Pianist and Blue Note recording artist Bill Charlap will perform at the Chester Meeting House. This is a return performance for Charlap who graced the stage of Chester nearly 18 years ago. Charlap is among the great Jazz pianists of our time covering and interpreting a complete Jazz repertoire including works from the American Popular Song Book spotlighting songs by George Gershwin, Jerome Kern and Leonard Bernstein as well as timeless Jazz classics that include ballads, blues and rhythmic bossa nova.

The Harvest Dinner, following the Fair will be served from 5~7 p.m. inside the Chester Meeting House.

an evocative study by three artists in three mediums

N E S T as defined is a structure or place made or chosen for sheltering.  This exhibit explores the idea of nest in three media in a collaborative spirit amongst three prominent Connecticut artists  –  Lori Warner, Dina Varano and Pat Smith. The three artists worked closely together to develop and expand this idea with weekly studio visits over several months where they shared ideas, images, readings and critiqued nascent pieces, materials and techniques.

From a distance nests can look haphazard, but at close examination one can see the deliberate structure.   When Dina Varano creates her art for this collection, she considers the timely process of placing each twig, vine, or delicate grass. “I create a mantra during the process,” says Dina, “and in the end, those delicate lines build a strong structure – an ordered chaos that has purpose and grace.”

Get ready to head to the market

Chester Sunday Market starts its new season this weekend and it promises to be a great one. Many favorite vendors will be back, including Rose’s Berry Farm and Dondero Orchards. There will be a number of new vendors as well, including seafood and chocolate sellers. The market is running this summer under the direction of co-managers Leni Herschman and Ilene Mitnick. Expect a slight change in the layout. Part of Main Street will be closed to traffic, making it safer for pedestrians.

The municipal lots will be available for parking, and there will be a free shuttle bus for the market, running from the commuter lot at Exit 6 on Route 9 to the downtown. There will be music, street performers and the chance to see friends and neighbors.
