ETHAN LIPTON and his ORCHESTRA Perform in Chester

One Brooklyn’s finest, ETHAN LIPTON and his ORCHESTRA will be performing as part of CBSRZ’s “Music and More” series in Chester. The band will be previewing their new piece “NOWHERE TO GO,” a project they’ve been commissioned to develop at The Public Theater.  It’s a funny, wise and thought-provoking song cycle about modern life. The concert is 5 P.M. Feb. 26, 2012 at Congregation Beth Shalom Rodfe Zedek.

Dining with Dorie! Meet Cookbook Author Dorie Greenspan

Award-winning cookbook author and River Tavern friend Dorie Greenspan will be cooking a special prix fixe dinner with Chef Chris Flahaven on Thursday, March 1st. The delicious four course menu will include recipes from Dorie’s latest cookbook, Around My French Table. Click here for a sneak peek of the menu. For those who don’t already have one, we’ll also have her gorgeous cookbook available for sale. The book is chock full of cooking tips, personal anecdotes and mouthwatering photos. Of note, Chris Flahaven and his wife Emily, an accomplished baker, recently assisted Dorie with the production of her first culinary app for the ipad. The prix fixe dinner is $75 per person. Chester Historical Society Presents: Chester “Characters”

Shirley Miceli started working in Collins Pharmacy on Main Street (which she later bought and renamed Chester Pharmacy) during her college summers. She remembers the early years of being a pharmacist when many prescriptions (capsules, ointments, suppositories, liquids) were compounded - made by hand, right there in the store. She ran the pharmacy just short of 40 years, closing it in 1989. This photo is from the 1960s. Shirley still remembers when she was held up at knifepoint inside the pharmacy, but the robber got away.
